Very first poster for 'The Place Beyond the Pines'

From the Red Carpet (@F_T_R_C) have released the first look at the poster for Ryan's next movie 'The Place Beyond the Pines'.  The movie stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper and so is sure to be a hit with the girls!! But there is plenty for the male audience too with the debuting at TIFF last year and according to FTRC
"Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines boasts stellar performances all round. Alongside Gosling and Cooper stars Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen."
“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. The Place Beyond The Pines is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”

NEW fan pics of Ryan Gosling at Warner in LA

@sherlokid was visiting Warner studios when she saw Ryan Gosling! She was very excited (who wouldn't be?) and even spoke a few words with him. She said he was very nice (as always).

Here are the pics that thankfully she was able to take and share with us:

Everyone loves Ryan Gosling

Saw this great story today and just had to share .... it seems everyone loves Ryan Gosling!  If you read our comments on previous posts (here and here) Ryan commented that he was hoping for Gangster Squad promotional mugs.  Well now thanks to fan Sarah J. Velasquez he has one!!

"Earlier this month, Tribute.ca posted a video in which Gangster Squad star Ryan Gosling said he hoped his role in the film noir would earn him his very own collectible Ryan Gosling Tim Horton’s coffee mug — like the Dick Tracy Burger King cups he collected as a kid. While the comment went mostly without notice, Buffalo.com employee and Gosling fan Sarah J. Velasquez wasn’t just going to let the actor’s dreams go unfulfilled: on Jan.9, she and a co-worker created their very own cut-and-paste Gosling-Timmie’s mug, and posted the creation online. A few weeks later, Tim Hortons — inspired by Velasquez’s creation — unveiled an official Ryan Gosling coffee mug, to be delivered to the actor himself."

100 reasons to love Ryan Gosling

It's our 100th post and we are celebrating the best way we know .. by celebrating Ryan.  We know there are so many different reasons fans love Ryan!  We've come to know Ryan through his roles and so we decided to celebrate his talent so  each of us chose a movie that is close to our hearts.

Fab

Lars and the Real Girl
I think I can say this is the movie that made me fall in love with Ryan. I've watched The Notebook and Fracture at the time but when I saw Lars on TV one day I was in awe. Ryan brought to life not only his character but also Bianca. I don't want to spoil the movie so just watch it. I dare you not to cry! The following week I watched all of Ryan's movies and a few years later here I am :)
I chose a scene that made me cry like a baby:

PJ

Drive
This movie is just so cool! The dream like nature of the film, the soundtrack, the LA location and the way that the emotion of the characters is conveyed ... they all make me love this movie.  Be warned it is violent but Ryan brings a humanity to the character of Driver that makes you understand his world.

Thanks for reading
Fab and PJ

Interview: Ryan Gosling explains himself to ShortList

Some answers we have seen before but Ryan talks a little bit about Only God Forgives and other things like getting naked and working with Michael Fassbender ;) Check it out:

You’ve done action before, but was the action in Gangster Squad more fun?
Yeah, it was. It didn’t feel like it at the time that we were making it. It’s certainly different to anything I’ve done before.
Did it give you a taste for that kind of thing?
The fact that it was in the context of that period, and the Mafia in Los Angeles at that time – that whole world – was what was so interesting about it for me.
So we won’t see you in The Expendables 3, then?
Well, they haven’t offered.
Never say never.
Still waiting for the call…
How much research did you do for the film?
It was interesting because the film was partially based on reality, but then also certainly fictionalised. I guess it was difficult because they were based on real characters, but at the same time it wasn’t an actual retelling of the events, so we were able to have some creative liberty.
Did you base your character on anyone?
No, I think I just based it on the dynamic of [everyone else]. It’s sort of like a band. You come in and it’s almost like this guy is playing lead guitar and this guy’s on drums and you’re like, “I think I’ll play the triangle.” You try to fill where there are spaces.
So you weren’t watching old James Cagney movies?
I love those movies. My favourite gangster movie when I was a kid was Dick Tracy – and I was a big fan. I had a few posters in my room. I collected all the Burger King cups.
Do you raise your game when you’re surrounded by actors such as Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone?
Well, it’s tough with Emma because we are such knuckleheads, and we have to work hard to be serious. Especially as we got to know each other on a comedy [Crazy, Stupid, Love]. And it was incredible to get to work with all of those guys – not only the Seans and Joshs, but Giovanni Ribisi and Robert Patrick. It was a great group of guys.
You’re playing Emma’s love interest again. Is it weird re-enacting a relationship as different characters?
No, I love the idea of working with the same people. You spend most of the time getting to know a person, getting to know how they work, developing a shorthand together. So it’s nice to be able to go into a second picture with them and hit the ground running. You’re able to do better work and you don’t waste time with formalities.
So you won’t be actively avoiding her for a while, then?
No. Not at all.
After the year you had in 2011, do you feel any pressure?
Now I am, now you’ve said that. Jeez. No, that was just such a year – a perfect storm of strange events. I’d been waiting for that forever, so I’m not deluding myself into thinking it was something I can plan or choreograph. So, erm, well, no.
Does it feel like you’ve jumped up a league since then?
I guess it feels different. I mean, there’s certainly a difference now, with more opportunities. But there are also more opportunities to f*ck it up.
Are you more aware of camera lenses and people looking at you in the street?
Sure, this is the age of the cellphone camera; you’re always on camera.
Just make sure your hair is always looking good...
[Laughs] It kind of keeps you on edge.
Talking of cameraphones, you were filmed breaking up a fight in New York. Did you panic at any point or think it could go horribly wrong?
Not really, but I think in retrospect, from a blurry cellphone perspective, from far away, it looked more interesting than it was. In reality, one guy was pretty old and the other guy was pretty sad and crazy. And there were lots of people around. I wasn’t the only one involved. There were a couple of guys that were actively trying to help.
So if they’d been 6ft 4in and built like rugby players, you might have thought twice?
Yeah.
You come across as a guy who has sound morals and values. How do you think men should behave today? Do you think it’s hard for us to know?
I feel like there’s a sense of confusion, as to what men want from each other, what’s expected of them and what they expect from each other.
There’s a balance to strike between being too macho and too effeminate. How do you deal with that?
I feel like Hollywood is responsible for a lot of the stereotypes, so to a certain degree I’m in the belly of the beast. In some ways it makes it easier to see it, because you’re in the factory, seeing how those archetypes are created.
Do you make moral choices when you pick characters for big films?
No. As an actor, my job is a lot like your job. Being a journalist – you represent a character. You advocate for them to a certain degree, but you have to be objective, and present their faults and flaws along with their assets and good qualities. You try to give an affectionate portrait of that person, but it doesn’t mean that you are delusional and are trying to hide their flaws.
Talking of personas and characters, you have this reputation for being cool – how do you feel about that?
Ha! I’m just hearing it, it's news to me.
Well, it’s true. Is there anything geeky about you, or oddly unattractive that ordinary men can cling on to?
I don’t know where this came from; it’s far from the truth. When I was coming up as an actor, I was never sent out for the leading roles – I always played character parts, and the only time that changed was when I was offered the lead in The Notebook. But I was hired by [director] Nick Cassavetes, by his own admission, because I was the wrong guy. He said he picked me because I wasn’t handsome and I wasn’t cool. He felt that I was crazy enough to actually build a house for a girl I only met one summer. So I think after I did that, that role was ‘me’. Something that had never happened before, was never going to happen again and, for whatever reason, it sort of changed people’s perspectives about me. I guess it opened a lot of doors for me. But it certainly wasn’t a given that I always play those roles.
When you watched The Notebook, did you cry?
Yes, but for different reasons.
So, now you’re aware of this Ryan Gosling persona, do you try to take parts that don’t feed it too much?
This is a tightrope; I’m a tightrope-walker right now. I can’t look down or I’ll fall. I just try to stay focused and look ahead. If I really look around at what I’m doing or how I’m doing it, I’ll ruin it. So I can’t afford to think that way. This is an industry that builds you up and takes you down, and I don’t mean that in a cynical way. It’s the circle of life around these parts. I expect it to happen, sooner or later. It’s something you can’t spend too much time on because it will come, so you stay focused and get as much work done as you can.
You were seen being massaged by Michael Fassbender on the set of the new Terrence Malick film. Would you get naked for a role as readily as Fassbender does? Because he can’t seem to wait to take his clothes off.
[Laughs] I feel like he’s got that covered – like I said, he’s on the drums, so I don’t need to be a drummer.
Fassbender has undertaken some extreme preparations for films. What’s the most extreme lengths you’ve gone to?
I think the hardest thing I did was gain 50lb in a few months for The Lovely Bones movie [Gosling was set to star in Peter Jackson’s adaptation before making way for Mark Wahlberg]. Obviously it’s not a competition. Just in my own world that was pretty awful. That’s why De Niro said he would never do it again [after Raging Bull], and how stupid it was.
Was it pizzas all day?
I stopped drinking water, and instead melted pints of Häagen-Dazs and drank that when I was thirsty.
That is pretty extreme. You’re also doing another film with Nicolas Winding Refn, Only God Forgives…
Yeah, we already finished that one.
It's set in Thailand. Did you learn Muay Thai?
Yeah, it was hard. I trained for four or five months, but then when I got there, Nick and I decided that it really didn’t need to be Muay Thai, and we kind of weaned it out. We kept the violence, but the script changed so much. When we work, we work chronologically, so we shoot, go home, watch the movie, cut it as we’re making it and decide what we’d like to see next. And even though I had prepared and trained for the boxing matches, as the film went on it was going to such an interesting, surreal dream state that we didn’t want to bring it back to just two guys fighting each other in a boxing ring. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s an incredible art form and I have a great respect for it, but in the context of the movie it felt less a part of the world we were trying to create.
And did you get knocked about a bit?
Yeah. Nicolas had a great idea, where instead of a boxing ring, he wanted to do it on concrete. And Nicolas likes 50 takes of every scene, so it basically just turned into me getting my ass kicked.
Repeatedly.
Like 150 times. Before lunch. On concrete.
So, finally, if you fell off that tightrope and it all went wrong with the acting, what would you do?
Oh, this is a good question – I really should think about this. Are there any openings over at your end?
There are actually, yeah.
Really?
I’m sure I can get you in for an interview, not a problem.
I’ll take you up on that.

Most anticipated movies of 2013 includes 'Only God Forgives'

Ryan and Nicholas Winding Refn's follow up to 'Drive' has been included on  The Film Stage's list of the most anticipated movies of 2013.  Coming in at number 12 of 100!!

After watching the first footage (posted here) The Film Stage anticipates that Only God Forgives will be a "spiritual successor"  to Drive:
"Moving from the streets of Los Angeles to the Thailand boxing underground, this spiritual successor still seems to share many similarities, including a passive anti-hero, distinct style and lots (and lots) of violence."
Excitingly The Film Stage also list 'Only God Forgives' as a potential Cannes Premiere!

Ryan Gosling could knit you a scarf

From Yahoo! News:
Ryan Gosling may be a major film star, but his perfect day involves something entirely unglamorous -- yarn and knitting needles.

"I did this scene in 'Lars and the Real Girl' where I was in a room full of old ladies who were knitting, and it was an all-day scene, so they showed me how. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life," Ryan told GQ Australia's February/March 2013 issue.

In fact, it wasn't just relaxing. The box office hunk said it was perfect! "If I had to design my perfect day, that would be it," he said. "And you get something out of it at the end. You get a nice present. For someone who wants an oddly shaped, off-putting scarf."
I'll take that, Ryan :)

Ryan Gosling: 'My pecs are like pets'

Ryan Gosling feels goofy for having pecs! See how he has been reported as describing his muscles:

"Anyone can get those if they work at it. It's just a lot of exercising. And it's really quite pointless, because you go to a gym and you lift a heavy thing so a muscle grows, but the only thing the muscle can actually do is to lift that heavy thing", he joked.

"After a while they're like pets because they don't do anything useful. But you have to feed them and take care of them otherwise they'll go away. I feel a bit goofy having them, to tell you the truth"

Anna Kendrick is a Ryan Gosling fan

and possibly a bit of an exhibitionist :)

'Up in the Air' actress Anna Kendrick shocked some with her racy tweet about Ryan on Monday! However with over 10,000 RTs it looked like a lot of people may have agreed!!
@AnnaKendrick47 "Ugh - NEVER going to a Ryan Gosling movie in a theater again. Apparently masturbating in the back row is still considered 'inappropriate.'"

Interview: Ryan Gosling having fun

Here's what James Rocchi form Hitlist has to say about this interview:

On a normal day in my abnormal job, I interview people who make movies. Now and then, it's a lengthy conversation in person or on the phone; on other occasions, it's a brief sit-down in a small, over-lit hotel room rigged with cameras and lights. Every time you walk into one of those small rooms, I think it's very easy to remember and know that these actors, actresses and (sometimes) directors and producers don't know you, and they will assuredly not remember you from the last time you spoke. You have a polite conversation about the film and their work, and move on.

Usually.

On other occasions, though, an actor you've spoken to before feels like they know you, based on your chit-chat before interviews beginning and cameras rolling. (For example, Gosling and I both spent time in central Ontario -- he grew up near the place where I went to college -- and have talked about that before.) And perhaps, just perhaps, that actor wants to give you ... not grief, certainly, but, uh, a lively time. Maybe he or she just wants to mix it up a little bit. And they know you just well enough to do that for themselves and to you, with all the subtle things the difference between those two verbs implies.

Such was the case sitting down with Ryan Gosling to talk "Gangster Squad," which started -- and started going off the rails -- as soon as another person in the room (one of the many people who make these interviews happen, thanklessly, so thanks to them all here) noted in the waiting-for-it-all-to-start conversation that she'd seen me the day prior interviewing Sylvester Stallone, and here I was now, and life was funny. I agreed.

So, apparently, did Gosling: "You were with Stallone yesterday? What? I would like to spend our interview talking about Sylvester Stallone ... can't I have it my way, just once?"

I -- delicately -- tried to shift the conversation back to Mr. Gosling's film, "Gangster Squad."

You can see what happens below. And in advance, I blame myself.
We dare you not to laugh :)

Gangster Squad reviews

The early reviews for Gangster Squad are in ... see the links below for the reviews.  We've added the comments about Ryan below ... all attitude and eyelashes is our fave!!

Empire
"the big selling-point is Ryan Gosling, who gets many of the best moments as the amusingly named Jerry Wooters. The romantic subplot between Gosling and Emma Stone (a good-time girl who’s wound up on Cohen’s arm) may seem a little bit like Crazy Stupid Love in fancy dress, but the pair’s chemistry still scorches, with writer Will Beall giving them some choice repartee"

The Hollywood Reporter
"Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), whose womanizing skills come in handy to lure Cohen's current flame Grace Faraday (Emma Stone)"

Variety
"Jerry Wooters (Gosling, all attitude and eyelashes) seduces Cohen's No. 1 moll (Emma Stone)."

Screen Daily
"Ryan Gosling (seen last year in Drive) plays O’Mara’s wise-cracking sidekick"

Renaissance man Ryan Gosling teams up with Emma Stone in Gangster Squad

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were last seen as a cinema couple in Crazy Stupid Love.  They enjoyed working together in the comedy and obviously built a great rapport.  However they had to be more serious when they teamed up for the crime thriller Gangster Squad.

“It was hard for us to be serious,” says Gosling. “We are a couple of knuckleheads who made this comedy and thought it would be fun to work together again and then we had to try and be serious.”
Gangster Squad is based on Paul Lieberman’s non-fiction book that recounts the violent measures adopted by the LAPD to rid the city of mobster Mickey Cohen.
"During a recent L. A. interview, director Ruben Fleischer says that Gosling and Stone provide a human face to the grim proceedings in the stylized shoot ‘em up. ”They are looking for a way out and each finds a kindred spirit in the other,”

Ryan plays Sgt. Jerry Wooters, a real life LAPD officer. He's described as a tough-as-nails cops assigned to do what’s necessary to eliminate the ruthless Mickey Cohen.  Emma Stone plays the fictional Grace Faraday, a failed-actress-turned-Cohen-moll who falls for Gosling’s cop and gets caught in between.
"Stone’s Grace is fictional, but she understands her misplaced ambitions and the shock of recognition she feels. “Grace moved to Hollywood to be a star, not an actress, but still failed” and might have to pay the price of great expectations."

“Ryan’s a real renaissance man,” Stone says. “He’s open and up for anything, so it makes him a great teammate."
The pair had been lined up to play opposite each other again in the film "Focus" however they both were announced as no longer attached to the project at the same time.  We can only hope they find another suitable film in which to co-star again!!

NEW Gangster Squad clips

From Upcoming Movies:
Watch several new "Gangster Squad" clips to prep you for the Ruben Fleischer film starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena and Robert Patrick.

Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the crime drama opens in theaters on January 11th and is based on the LA Times series "Tales From the Gangster Squad" written by Paul Lieberman.

Also in the cast are Nick Nolte, Sullivan Stapleton, Frank Grillo, and Mireille Enos.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.

Dan Lin produces the outstanding-looking film.
